Trial - Vaccination of CAV positive breeder flocks

  • Maternally derived antibodies (MDA) offer protection against CAV infections
  • High levels of MDA are needed to avoid vertical transmission of CAV
  • Field infections do not guarantee high and homogenous levels of MDA
  • Vaccination is the best way of promptly obtaining high and homogenous levels of MDA

The following graphs illustrate the average serological response in breeders as measured in the VN test. Flock A was not vaccinated whereas Flock B was vaccinated at 9 weeks of age intramuscularly. Vaccination of a Flock B, being already positive to CAV due to a field infected, resulted in much higher titers than in unvaccinated Flock A.
